As Guido Deiro showcased the piano accordion through his vaudeville performances across the United States, more and more people were introduced to the instrument, the popularity of the accordion increased, and accordion clubs were formed by accordion aficionados in major cities.

One of the first clubs to organize was the San Francisco Accordion Club; Guido Deiro was one of the founding members of this club and was voted their first president, and later was elected perpetual "Honorary President." The club sponsored their first annual picnic in the Summer of 1916. At the annual picnics a famous accordionist was chosen to be the master of ceremonies. Often there was a raffle with the winner receiving a $500 accordion donated by a local accordion company.

Guido Deiro was the guest of honor at the San Francisco Accordion Club Picnic held at Fairfax Park on Sunday, August 21, 1927. Newspaper clippings from Deiro's scrapbook described the spectacular event, which was attended by 8,000 people. Deiro led a grand parade and motorcade of several hundred vehicles with police escort, along with a 250-member accordion band. Cinematographers filmed the event for posterity.

One newspaper reported, "Deiro was the most popular Italian in San Francisco this day. As master of ceremonies, he proved to be the biggest hit of the show and kept the crowds in a merry mood."
