Alcoa Singers

The Alcoa Singers of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

December 2010: Henry Doktorski completed his tenth year serving as the conductor of the Alcoa Singers, an ensemble founded in 1961 of employees, contractors, and retirees of the Alcoa Aluminum Company who are dedicated to quality choral singing and community outreach. The Singers performed holiday concerts at various venues throughout the city of Pittsburgh, including Miyram's Women's Day Shelter, St. Ambrose Manor, Asbury Heights Nursing Home, the William KcKinley Senior Center, the Alcoa Northside Center, and other locations.

Their repertoire consisted of three-part anthems of sacred and secular Christmas tunes ranging from the early nineteenth-century Austrian carol Still, Still, Still, to the 1944 classic by Kirby Shaw Baby, It's Cold Outside.

December 24, 2010: Henry Doktorski directed the music for three Christmas Eve services at Grace Lutheran Church in Rochester, Pennsylvania. The liturgies were presided over by Pastor Reverend Gregory Clagg.

In addition to the music performed by singers, ringers and other musicians, Doktorski performed an original composition on Grace Lutheran's 1983 Two-Manual & Pedal 24-Rank Schlicker Organ: Improvisation on "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen." Doktorski said, "I wanted to show off the two sets of chimes (very unusual in a medium-size organ), the 8-foot Trompete on the Great Manual, as well as the 16-foot pedal reed. At the conclusion of the piece, I briefly quoted a 1958 hit rock 'n roll song by The Champs, Tequila! which, in my humble opinion, reinforced the festive mood of the joyous celebration of the birth of Lord Jesus Christ."
