Henry finishes in 2^nd place in Temecula Chess Club tournament

Temecula Chess Club Tournament Director Rod Cleveland presents Henry with the $50 2^nd place prize.

January 28, 2025: Henry finished in 2^nd place in the January Temecula Chess Club 8-round tournament with 5 wins, 2 draws and one loss. “Mighty” Marius Gabriel Lucan (who clobbered Henry in round 2) finished in first with 7 points.

Most notable for Henry was his win in round 4 against James Mannella (rated 2003) and his two draws against former student Joel Smith. In September 2017 (eight years ago), nine-year-old Joel Smith began studying chess at Henry’s Chess4Kidz classes/tournaments at the Home School Campus Charter School at the Murrieta Church of Christ. Now he’s almost 17 and his skills have dramatically improved. Henry says he is a force on the chessboard not to be taken lightly.
