Henry finishes in 2nd place in Temecula Chess Club tournament (May 2025)

Temecula Chess Club Tournament Director Rod Cleveland presents Henry with the $60 2nd place prize.
May 27, 2025: Henry finished in 2nd place in the February Temecula Chess Club 8-round tournament (TCC 140) with 6 wins and two losses. “Mighty” Marius Gabriel Lucan (who clobbered Henry in round 2) finished in first with 8 points.

The top three players: Henry Doktorski (second), Marius Gabirel Lucas (first), and Ramy Kid Aziz Namroud (third). Henry says, “I find it curious, and perhaps appropriate, that Marius and Ramy were the only players to defeat me in this tournament.“
Following is the transcript of Henry’s Round 7 game against a worthy opponent, Benjamin Rudy, who played the Caro Kann against Henry’s 1. e4. At one point Benjamin had a terrific attack against Henry’s king. On move 17.... (Bxh3!) Benjamin offered a bishop sacrifice in an attempt to blast open Henry’s king’s pawn fortress. Henry replied with the dubious 18. Nxg5?, and the chess engine computer indicated (during game analysis later) that black was at that moment 3.27 points ahead, and should win with best play. But Benjamin retreated his bishop instead of taking Henry’s knight, and Henry found a way to escape. Henry later got Benjamin in the end.
