July 2024: Henry appeared in the recent issue of The American Organist, the monthly magazine published by the American Guild of Organists. The TAO is the most-widely read journal devoted to organ and choral music in the world; it’s the official journal of the American Guild of Organists and the Associated Pipe Organ Builders of America. The magazine has a circulation of about 12,000, including both print and digital versions. The article, which appeared in Alla Breve on page 20 is brief, but substantial. The article follows:

Palomar (Calif.) AGO Chapter newsletter editor and former dean Henry Doktorski has a hobby: making recordings of organ pieces, including his own improvisations, which he has performed as preludes at House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Escondido, where he plays Sundays and Wednesdays. Christopher Cook, former dean of the San Diego AGO Chapter, observes that Doktorski “has imbued each track with careful playing that prioritizes musical expression over technical achievement. His transcriptions are well suited to the [church’s] nine-rank instrument, thanks to his expertise in voicing and registration.” Cook also admires his jazz improvisations. A playlist of eight recordings is available at tinyurl.com/doktorski-preludes. All were recorded on the II/9 Schlicker organ at House of Prayer—except for tracks 7 and 8, which were recorded on the three-manual Robert Knight hybrid organ (32 pipe stops, 25 Allen digital stops) at St. Martha Roman Catholic Church in Murrieta, Calif.

Henry noted, “Perhaps, I didn’t make it to the cover of Rolling Stone, but I’m thrilled that I got mentioned in the world’s most popular and scholarly monthly magazine devoted to the ‘King of Instruments’ and its devotees!”
